Protecting your items whilst using self-storage

Here, at Ease the Squeeze, we know that the items you are putting in to self store are valuable to you. Our self stores have been built to ensure that your possessions are safe and secure whilst in storage with us, however, there are some eventualities we cannot guarantee protection for; such as fire and flood. Most home insurance policies do not cover the value of you goods whilst in self store facilities or they fail to cover specific threats that can occur with storage and this is why we provide extra protection for all our customers with our StoreGuard insurance policy.

What does StoreGuard insurance cover?

Our self-storage insurance policy, StoreGuard, protects you for the following unexpected eventualities:

  • Physical loss or damage to your property caused by burst pipes or escape of water

  • Theft accompanied by forcible and violent entry or exit

  • Moth, insect or vermin damage from an external source

  • Fire

  • Lightning

  • Explosion

  • Earthquake

  • Storm

  • Riot

  • Strike

  • Civil commotion

  • Malicious damage

  • Impact by vehicles and aircraft

What you can’t store at an Ease the Squeeze self-store facility:

  • Toxic, pollutant or contaminated goods

  • Firearms, munitions or explosives

  • Radioactive materials

  • Flammable or hazardous goods

  • Living plants or animals

  • Food or perishable goods*

  • Cash and securities

  • Illegal goods

  • Waste

* Unless approved by us in advance and confirmed in writing.

Can you use your own storage insurance?

Yes, you can use your own insurance policy if you prefer, however, you will need to provide proof of this cover to us before placing any of your items in to storage with us.

Your policy must cover goods stored in a self storage facility and name the storage company you are storing at - Ease the Squeeze [branch] - as well as the correct warehouse address and sum insured.

Making a claim

Whilst we hope that you will never have to make a claim, should something unthinkable happen, your Ease the Squeeze team will be ready to help advise you through the claims process. Simply get in touch with them about your issue as soon as you can.

Immediate storage protection cover for your valuables

Your policy is valid from the moment you place your goods in storage with us, and protects your home insurance benefits.

Because our insurance is designed specifically for your items in storage there would be no impact on your often valuable ‘no claims discount’ on your home insurance or affect your future premiums in the event of a claim.

Please take a few minutes to read through our top tips to protect the goods you are storing with us.

  • Ensuring the value is declared correctly – Before taking cover, please consider the true cost of replacing the contents you are storing with us.

  • Consider making a list to help you or take photos or a video of your contents to help our insurer in the event of a claim.

  • If you have expensive goods with valuations, please ensure you can obtain a copy in the event of an emergency or total loss.

  • Finally, remember that valuations can change, therefore it is important to inform us of any changes to the value of the goods stored.

What is under-insurance?

Unfortunately, under-insurance is a common problem, as many people think that stating items are lower in value than they actually are to get a cheaper premium can actually result in a substantially reduced pay-out or void your insurance policy completely!

Please make sure you take in to account the true replacement value of your possessions, stock or equipment to ensure that you do not under insure yourself.
